Parallax Sculpture by Mark Knutson
Installed in January 2023, this rail inspired work by artist Mark Knutson can be seen on the north side of the depot, near the Winslow Studio Artists Gallery, the first in the future sculpture planned for the lot in front of the museum.
“Similar to the rail lines of a railroad track that fade into the horizon, the sculpture forms a parallax that vertically disappears in the blue skies above.” – Mark Knutson
Turrell Trailer
For the first several years that artist of light James Turrell worked on Roden Crater, he lived in and worked in this Argosy Trailer. It was in this space that Turrell worked out the initial plans for what has become one of the most important artworks in the world. Allan Affeldt acquired this trailer by swapping his old friend James for a piece of railroad equipment James wanted for his ranch. You are welcome to have a seat in the lounge chair and enjoy the space!
Route 66 Mural Wall
For the opening of Paul Ruscha LIFE MASK in the Winslow Studio Artists Gallery, we wanted something better to look at than the raw cinderblock wall, so created the Route 66 Mural wall, celebrating the significant locations in Pauls life.
502 Pleasure Dome – Super Chief Railcar
While you can’t yet go in the 502 Pleasure Dome, you can see the rail car on the east end of the museum, from the northern lot. This project is high on our list to get open to the public!
