Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter (1869-1958) worked for the Fred Harvey Company from 1902 until her retirement in 1948. We are currently working on a permanent exhibit for this gallery, celebrating the life and work of the brilliant architect who designed La Posada Hotel and the depot where Affeldt Mion Museum is located, along with many other masterful architectural works.
During the construction of La Posada Hotel, Colter used the depot as her furniture workshop, to replicate antiques to populate the hotel. We are in the process of building a display for a few original pieces!
You will also find some of Colter’s original tin chandeliers, wrought-iron ashtrays, and Mimbreño china.
