At our last studio visit (5/1/2025), Lori and Dan were working out the solution to the “Canyon” exhibit area in the WSA Gallery for the Lutzick Snowdrift Arrays exhibit opening this November.
They decided to fill it with re-purposed shelves and small sculptures to give it a geological strata effect.

Hand-painted signs will complete the display, and the words on those signs will give the viewer clues to the ideas behind the exhibit.

Canyon Construction
Fast-forward four months, and Dan has been assembling and staining the shelves, painting the chosen words on the signs, and creating new sculptures to rest on the shelves. As always, the process of making the overall piece has sparked new ideas for the individual sculptures, which have become hybrids of the larger sculptures in the exhibition

New Work
Speaking of large sculptures, perhaps the largest sculpture in the exhibition—an imposing, eight-legged, virus-like entity made from plywood and a salvaged duct vent head —has been slowly coming together in Snowdrift’s Main Gallery.

Dan and the crew struggled to get the head on the sculpture, and he is now completing the remaining legs. Along with several other large pieces, this sculpture will be “roaming” the WSA Gallery in front of a tight array of sculptures huddled together.
Catalog
A great deal of work has also been put into the Arrays catalog, which will include images of the installation process and will be released shortly after the November 2025 opening. This month, the WSA artists will gather at Snowdrift for a panel discussion that will focus on the impact that living and working in Winslow has had on their work. Excerpts from the discussion will be included in the Arrays catalog.

More to Come…
