Opening Day!

If you are joining us next Saturday, September 2nd, the museum opens at 9 a.m. Two Diné weavers are joining us, Jennie Slick and Gloria C. Begay, who will do weaving demonstrations from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. At 1 p.m. on the south lawn adjacent to the museum, we will have a short program, including:

  • Introduction and brief history by Creative Director Lori Bentley Law
  • The return to Winslow and exhibit building from founder Allan Affeldt
  • The condition and conservation plan by weaver Mary Walker
  • Future programs, presented by the Winslow Arts Trust.
  • Closing out with Navajo Dancer Bennie Yazzie and his Tribe of Many Feathers dancers
Dancer Bennie Yazzie for the Hubbell Joe Rug Opening.

And now for why the $5 admission was crossed out at the top…

AMM Admission is normally $5, but for opening day—thanks to the kindness of our friends—ALL admissions will be sponsored!

Licher Collection of Historic Navajo Weavings

Also opening on September 2nd, the Licher Collection of Historic Navajo Weavings in the adjacent contemporary gallery. Architect Max Licher and his wife Clare have been collecting for more than forty years. As Sedona residents, texture, geology, and biology resonate with them, and those elements are reflected in this spectacular collection. It is fitting that these historic weavings, ranging from the 1910s to the 1930s, are being shown in the gallery for which Max was architect. It is a lovey space, filled with light, and the weavings have a joyful quality I’m sure you will love.
